Plans to de-campaign DP Ruto among top key agenda in tomorrow’s Sagana III meeting

Campaigns to popularise Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga in the Mount Kenya region have set off with central leaders taking charge of the rich vote bloc ahead of tomorrow’s  Sagana III leaders meeting.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has currently embarked in active politics at the completion of his second term with leaders allied to him starting angling themselves as his possible successors in the area.

Even as he prepares to leave office later this year, a group of allied figures want the President to continue as the leader of the Jubilee Party and the region’s political kingpin beyond the 2022 elections.

The head of state is tomorrow slated to entertain thousands of people from his Mount Kenya backyard as part of an aggressive drive to rally his supporters against his principal assistant presidential ambitions.

The meeting, dubbed “Sagana Three”, is expected to bring together Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, former and serving governors, MPs, Ward Reps, aspirants, religious leaders, cultural elders, professionals, women and youth representatives from the 10 counties that form Mt Kenya region to “take a common stand” on the August 9, 2022 vote.

It is expected that, besides lobbying his backyard to take a common stand Odinga in the August poll, Uhuru could explain the reasons he fell out with his deputy, whom he accuses of defiance and absconding his duties as a principal assistant, as well as explain how the region would benefit from an Azimio la Umoja government.

The political future of Mt Kenya, the falling-out between Kenyatta and his deputy and the region’s development will be top of the agenda.

The President has so far convened two meetings in Sagana State Lodge called Sagana One and Two and Sagana Three which will be convened tomorrow where he is anticipated to announce his succession plan and reveal what went wrong between him and the DP.

Sagana has been mounted as the headquarters of all Mt Kenya politics as was seen with Sagana I and II.

The significance of these meetings cannot be underscored as they always offer the region the necessary political direction.

The meeting with Kenyatta will take place next week right before the Jubilee party NDC.

While in Murang’a, the DP with his Kenya Kwanza Alliance team challenged Odinga and by extension his boss, Kenyatta to a duel in the vote-rich region.

“I know even if he is helped by who, Kenyans will be quick to know he is clueless on what are the country’s priorities,” the second-in-command said.
