Motorshop East African Limited Director Meshach Kipleting Tarbei faces fraud charges

A motor vehicle dealer has been charged with fraudulently obtaining money from unsuspecting members of the public using false pretences.

Meshach Kipleting Tarbei, the director of Motorshop E A Limited, was arrested by the officers from the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on January 1 after being in to hiding for one year.
He is alleged to have closed his offices, which are located at Marsabit Plaza along Ngong Road, and went into hiding after receiving money from nine unsuspecting victims.
The victims reported the matter at Kilimani Police Station prompting investigations into his dealings.
Tarbei appeared before He appeared before the Milimani Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe today and denied  receiving money from two individuals in pretences that he would import vehicles for them which was a false fact.
The prosecution told the court that on diverse dates between February 1 and August 29, 2023 at Marsabit Plaza in Nairobi jointly with others who were not before the court by use of fraudulent tricks, he obtained Kshh 530,000 from Joan Jelimo Ayabei.
He is alleged to have pretended to be in a position to import a motor vehicle, make Toyota Wish, for her, a fact which was false.
In the second matter, he is alleged to have obtained  Ksh 770,000from Alex Kiiru Muriuki by pretending that he was in a position to import a motor vehicle, make Volkswagen Golf, a fact which was false.
On Monday, Tarbei was charged in the same court with obtaining Ksh 925,000 from Enock Sawe a pastor and representative of Shalom Restoration Church in pretences to import a vehicle on behalf of the church where he denied the charges.
The prosecution prayed to the court to have the three files consolidated before the hearing of the matter.
Tarbei was detained at Kilimani Police Station until January 28 when the magistrate when the pre-bail report will be presented before determining whether to release him on bond.
