Jubilee leaders from Tharaka Nithi threaten to quit JP if primaries fail again
Three Jubilee leaders from Tharaka Nithi County have warned President Uhuru Kenyatta of a massive fall out if Jubilee party fails to conduct a free and fair repeat of party primaries.
The leaders said that the disgruntled Jubilee party aspirants who participated in the failed party primaries might move out of the party and seek for votes as independent candidates.
Led by Chuka MP Igamba Ng’ombe Muthomi Njuki, Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki and Women Rep Beatrice Nkatha expressed their disappointment in the party primaries blaming the party headquarters for failing to conduct free and fair nominations despite assurance from President Uhuru and the party secretariat.
Muthomi attributed logistical challenges and lack of enough security as the major hindrance that led to cancellation of the party primaries and many aspirants have been demoralized and many of them might run as independent candidates.
Muthomi said that it is so unfortunate for the ruling party to fail in conducting its nominations even after having a long time to prepare the exercise and also failing to deploy enough security officers to prevent hooliganism witnessed in some parts of the county.
Kareke Mbiuki said that many of the Jubilee party aspirants might go to other parties or run as independent candidates if their grievances will not be addresses urgently by the party secretariat.
Kareke faulted the party elections board for under estimating voter turnout bearing in mind jubilee is a big party with a massive following especially in central and rift valley regions.
Kareke said that the board assumed that there will be only 30 % voter turnout while the turnout was over 80% across the country.
He said that the party failed to secure the exercise and that led to loopholes in the exercise which resulted to harassment of presiding officers by goons hired by some aspirants and destruction of voting materials.
