Long rains expected in the next three weeks, Kenya Met Department says
The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for increased rainfall in the next three weeks especially in the Western belt as the country continues to experience unprecedented heat waves.
The National Weather Service yesterday warned that there is going to be heavy downpour over the Highlands West of the Rift Valley as well as over a few areas in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and the Southeastern lowlands.
“The rest of the country is likely to be sunny and dry,” Stella Aura, director, Kenya Meteorological Department said.
She spoke while releasing the latest weather forecast report in Nairobi.
According to the report, daytime maximum temperatures on the other hand are anticipated to be high with nighttime temperatures likely to be low especially in high-altitude places like Mount Kenya.
The counties of Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, West Pokot, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori, Baringo, Nakuru, Narok, and Laikipia will receive morning rainfall in the Highlands West
According to Aura maximum daytime temperatures are forecast to be between 26°C and 33°C, while lowest (nighttime) temperatures will be between 8°C and 19°C.
