National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula announce Kandara, Garissa Town MP seats vacant
National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangula has announced a vacancy in Garissa Township and Kandara constituency Member of Parliament (MP) seats.
The gazettement follows Alice Wahome’s resignation as Kandara MP in order to assume the Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary post.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that the seat of the Member of the National Assembly for Kandara Constituency elected under Article 97(1)(a) of the Constitution has become vacant with effect from October 26, 2022,” reads the gazette notice by the speaker dated October 27.
Garissa Township MP seat was also announced vacant following Aden Duale’s appointment as Defense CS.
“Pursuant to Articles 101(4)(a) and 103(1)(d) of the Constitution as read with section 16(3) of the Elections Act No. 24 of 2011, it is notified for the general information of the public that the seat of the Member of the National Assembly for Garissa Township Constituency elected under Article 97(1)(a) of the Constitution has become vacant with effect from October 26, 2022,” the gazette notice stated.
The two formally assumed office following yesterday’s handing over ceremonies of the new CSs from the outgoing CSs held in their respective ministries.
The speaker simultaneously informed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati of the vacancies in the two constituencies, in order for him to publish a gazette notice stating a date for the by-elections.
