Kenya Broadcasting Corporation workers who are members of the Communication Workers Union (COWU) Wednesday morning downed tools demanding the implementation of a 13.5 percent salary increment.
COWU issued a strike notice to KBC on June 14, coercing the corporation to seek guidance from the Ministry of Labour that advised the company to consult with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission on the implementation process.
The salary implementation of the CBA stalled because of final communication from the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) that declined to approve the pay structure.
KBC being a parastatal has to rely on SRC’s decision, which has promised to communicate by the end of this week.
Normal business continues in various departments including the newsroom because members of the Kenya Union of Journalists had not been consulted by the Communication Workers Union on the industrial action.
