SportPesa donates funds to set up a maternity wing in Bomet County
SportPesa betting firm has donated over Sh800,000 to Bomet County to set up a maternity wing at a local dispensary in Ndarawetta Location.
SportPesa Chief Executive Officer Ronald Karauri said that it is important to empower our communities.
“We will play our part in as we remain committed to supporting maternal health to ensure that women do not have to travel long distances to get professional maternal health care,” he said.
The company delivered beds to start off the maternity wing project at the Ndarawetta Dispensary, as part of its Maternal Health support initiative launched this month.
The firm donated six hospital beds with drip stands and will support the construction of a kitchen to serve the maternity wing, which was recently constructed by the management, with support from the community.
Dispensary’s management committee chairman Joseph Sang disclosed that women continue to suffer complications due to the scarcity of well-equipped maternity facilities in this area.
“We thank SportPesa for supporting maternal health care at the grassroots where it matters most. Their investment in this ward means an increased capacity to handle up to 20 deliveries per month, with the number doubling when the facility is fully operational,” he said.
The SportPesa initiative will see the organization work closely with partners in various Counties to support Maternal Health.
