Unified boxing coaching system to be introduced in Kenya

The Kenyan boxing sector is set for major changes with the introduction of a unified coaching system this year as per global competition standards.

National team (Hit Squad) head coach Musa Benjamin has said the unified coaching system will ensure Kenya owns identity and boxing philosophy like the South American giants such as Cubans did in the early 1960s. The idea is standardising their coaching system, a project which was fully backed by the government.

The famous Cuban training system emphasises technique, work ethic and discipline with their style revolving around elaborate footwork to enable them is constantly on the move with more emphasis on defense over offence and a pawing jab to find openings.

Key benefits of the unified coaching system include establishing uniform training protocols to ensure all athletes receive consistent coaching. Better talent identification at the local level will be made possible by the system, guaranteeing talented boxers get the help and instruction they require to succeed.

Musa stated that   the successful implementation of the unified coaching system will be a major milestone in the development of boxing in the country.

“From the grassroots to the national level coaches countrywide will use the same coaching system. Kenya hopes to develop a new generation of talented athletes who represent the nation’s distinct boxing culture… as well as strengthen its competitive advantage in international boxing.”

“With a unified approach, there can be better integration of support services such as nutrition, sports psychology and injury management, which are crucial for athlete success.”

By standardising coaching methods, the initiative seeks to enhance the skills and performance of boxers from the grassroots to the national stage. The milestone therefore will significantly contribute to the overall development of boxing in the country, ultimately leading to better performance in international competitions.

Musa added:  “The unified coaching system is a significant step towards achieving these goals and positioning Kenya as a formidable force in the boxing world. The nation might win more medals in international competitions as a result of this.”
