President Ruto expected to tour Wajir a day after DCI officer was killed in a daring day attack in Mandera
President William Ruto is today expected to embark on a development tour in the Northern Kenya region a day after an officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was shot dead in a daring broad-daylight attack in Lafey area, Mandera county.
The suspected Al-shabaab militants struck around 10:30am yesterday and made away with the police vehicle which was being refueled at the time.
Police say the gunmen fled the scene after dropping the body of the deceased officer from the vehicle.
Preliminary reports indicate that a man who was in the police vehicle has also been found abandoned in the bushes with serious injuries.
Several other residents living near the Lafey Police Post are also in the hospital after being hit by stray bullets following the incident in town.
The president’s visit comes at a time there is resurgence of terrorist attacks in the prone area bordering Somalia.
However, top security chiefs departed Nairobi yesterday as part of the advance team ahead of the planned visit by president Ruto to Wajir Town to grace an event led by Deputy Inspector General of Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli and Director, of Directorate of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin.
