Name of former CS emerge in controversial release of Kasarani murder attempt suspects

The name of former powerful Cabinet Secretary from the Rift Valley has emerged in the controversial release of two Kasarani murder attempt suspects believed to have thrown off a lady from a second floor balcony in an apartment in Kasarani, Nairobi.

Similarly, the victim, Cynthia Mboya aged 26 years old University of Nairobi student also controversially withdrew the complaint filed at Kasarani Police Station after being driven from her hospital bed to record a statement from the car at the station compound.

Kiptoo and Kipkorir have since been released from police custody. The three are said to be students at the University of Nairobi.

The name of the former CS who is also a seasoned politician and unsuccessfully vied for a governorship post in last years’ polls was invoked as having played key role in the release of the suspects and consequent withdrawal of the complaint against them.

Interestingly, later, in her statement withdrawing the complaint, Cynthia said she was ‘not seriously injured and did not wish to pursue the case further’.

“She could not walk when she was brought to the station to withdraw her complaint. She had been placed on the co-driver’s seat, which had been inclined.” Our source intimated.

Cynthia had filed the complaint against his boyfriend Collins Kiptoo and his cousin Ian Kipkorir following the shocking Sunday night incident.

However, by the time of going to publication, attempts by The Informer Media Group to contact the former CS for comment were unsuccessful since he was not reachable immediately.

Amateur videos that have since gone viral depict Cynthia groaning in deep pain shortly after the incident as neighbours gathered to help her get immediate medical treatment.

She is heard saying her boyfriend Collins is responsible for the crime.

According to preliminary police findings, the incident booked at Kasarani Police Station under Occurrence Book Number OB101/09/04/2023 occurred on Sunday April 9, 2023 at 10:45pm at Q Apartment within Camp David where Cynthia was allegedly pushed from the second floor balcony to the ground.

According to police records, Cynthia was taken to Uhai Neema Hospital for emergency treatment.

“The lady had gone to visit her boyfriend Collins Kiptoo who was in company of his cousin Ian Kipkorir when a scuffle ensued after the victim realised that the boyfriend was in another relationship.” An investigation report shows in part.

In the viral amateur videos, Cynthia is captured writhing in pain.

She broke the man’s television before proceeding to the balcony where the boyfriend followed her and an altercation ensued. Initial reports indicated that the man pushed her and she landed on her back.

After she was rushed to Uhai Neema Hospital by neighbours, Cynthia was later admitted at St Francis Mission hospital in Kasarani.

Detectives launched investigations into the incident and recorded statements from the victim, a female neighbour, and a caretaker, among others.

The two suspects were later arrested and detained at the Kasarani Police Station following the incident.
