More female candidates compared to male counterparts sat for KCSE in 2024

More female candidates sat for their KCSE in 2024 compared to their male counterparts. According to the released results, about 482, 202 candidates were female, while 480, 310 were male.

He said this is the first time in the history of KCSE that more female candidates enrolled than male counterparts.

However, he said in 23 counties more male candidates registered than female candidates. They include Gariza, Mandera, Wajir, Turkana, Samburu, Narok, Homa Bay, West Pokot, Mombasa, Migori Embu Kisii, Nyamira, and Baringo.

The CS said 23 counties had registered more female candidates than male candidates. They include Vihiga, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kirinyaga, Meru, Kiambu, Nairobi, Kisumu, Kitui, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Isiolo, Tharaka Nithi, and Kakamega.

Gender disparity was noted in 2024 KCSE results released on Thursday. According to the results, female candidates beat their male counterparts in seven subjects, which among them consisted of English, Kiswahili, French, Home Science and Arts and Craft.

On the other hand, the male candidates outperformed their female counterparts in 23 subjects, which included Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History and Government, Woodwork, Geography, and Metalwork among others.

He said the grading system for candidates in 2024 was based on have been graded using mathematics, the best performance language.
