Miss Universe Kenya 2024 titleholder Irene Mukii resigns
Just three months into her reign as Miss Universe Kenya 2024, Irene Mukii Ng’endo has resigned.
Through a public statement, she thanked all those who have supported her through her course. She however did not state her reasons behind her move to cut short her association with the Miss Universe Kenya Organisation whose patron is former Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.
“To all of you who have shown support, thank you. The focus remains to be transformational leadership to empower underserved and marginalised communities. I am excited about what’s ahead for Inspire Revolution.” She wrote.
Mukii added that despite her resignation, she would continue to stay committed to the impact agenda of community service through her platform, Inspirene Revolution, “towards my generation and can therefore only align with environments with values and work ethic that can help in achieving the agenda. After careful consideration, I have decided to send in my termination notice to the Miss Universe Kenya Organisation. I will continue working together for the good of our people.”
The Miss Universe Kenya Organisation acknowledged her decision to resign from her role, saying although it was regrettable; it respected her wish to move on.
“We are pleased to have met all our obligations to Mukii to the highest standards, in line with international best standards. Miss Universe Kenya is proud to lead the way in raising the bar for pageantry both in Kenya and across the region. We remain true to our core values of integrity, professionalism, and humanity.” The statement read in part.
In 2020, Mukii was appointed Miss Grand Kenya and represented Kenya at the Miss Grand International 2020 pageant in Bangkok, Thailand, where she finished in the Top 20.
On August 16, this year, the model, software engineer, teacher and entrepreneur was crowned Miss Universe Kenya 2024 at the Argyle Grand Hotel in Nairobi, defeating 15 other finalists.
Mukii represented Kenya in the 73rd Miss Universe pageant that was held at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico, on November 16, 2024.
The global competition was won by Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark.
