Middle-aged woman nabbed with cocaine worth Sh100million in Mombasa
A middle-aged woman was arrested on Friday after sleuths based in Mombasa seized a large consignment of cocaine, whose street value is estimated to be around Sh100 million, at Utange in Mombasa County.
According to the detectives they pounced on the suspect after a tip-off that led to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officials seizing the large consignment.
Nuru Murshid Mahfud, 29, was found in possession of the controlled substance which was conveniently packed in 35 sachets and hidden in a suitcase.
The sleuths are yet to establish whether the consignment was meant for local consumption or was being ferried to foreign destinations.
“The suspect has been detained at a police station in the coastal city as the undercover agents hunt for her accomplices,” the DCI said in a statement.
DCI’s chemistry and toxicology unit at the agency’s Forensics Lab will have their work cut out as they seek to conduct forensic tests on the impounded drugs for documentation.
