Etana’s hit jam ‘Weakness In Me’ born out of own life experiences
Jamaican songstress Shauna McKenzie aka Etana is in Nairobi for her much-anticipated concert dubbed Good Vibes Festival.
The famed singer has revealed the personal story behind her song “Weakness In Me”, saying the smash hit was inspired by her own life experiences, including heartbreak caused by her husband.
She intimated that the song was born in the back of her car in Miami after a live performance; at a time she was confronting her vulnerabilities and the complexities of relationships.
“I remember writing the song at the back of the car after performing in Miami. I wrote the song after he broke my heart. The same guy. He used to have a hard time listening to that song.” Ssaid during a live interview on a local TV station.
Etana highlighted the growth and evolution that relationships often demand, saying: “You see, people grow, they make mistakes, they have different experiences. They figure out what they really wanna be. Not understanding that part of it is why people fall apart. But for me, it’s overcoming those challenges.” She shared, adding that they moved past it and it has been a successful marriage since then.
The 40-year-old hitmaker is known for her other hits such as “I Rise”, “Love Song”, “I Am Not Afraid”, “Free”, “Pamoja”, and “100 On The Highway”.
So far, Etana has released seven albums namely: The Strong One (2008), Free Expressions (2011), Better Tomorrow (2013), I Rise (2014), Reggae Forever (2018), Dimensions (2019), and Pamoja in 2021.
