CAF gives thumbs to Stadia readiness ahead of CHAN fiesta

Confederation of African Football (CAF) Delegation has concluded its surveillance and inspection of Kenyan stadiums and training facilities ahead of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) slated for next month in the trio nations of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

The team led by Director of Competitions Samson Adamu visited four facilities in Nairobi including Nyayo Stadium, Moi Sports Centre-Kasarani, Ulinzi Complex in Langata and Kenya Police Sacco in South C area. The team was received by the FKF leadership and Local Organising Committee. A full report on Kenya’s Preparedness for the Continental Showpiece will be issued in the coming days.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has promised that Kenya will deliver a good show in the Championship that runs from February 1-28, 2025. He declared that with some areas to finalize, all was on course to make the tournament successful.

“There is still a bit of work to be done on the primary venues that will host the event. I have the confidence that the contractors, government officials, and all stakeholders involved in this process…the relevant committees will deliver on the mandate. We have a very strong and competent team to handle this event,”

“I think we now await the final report. This was the final visit as we await the draw that will be conducted next week and after that, final preparations for hosting the event will take place. So far we have been encouraged by the training facilities that we have visited,” added the new FKF Boss.

Of all the stadiums and training facilities to be used for the showpiece, only Kasarani Centre looks far off but contractors have been working round the clock to ensure the 60,000 venue is ready for action. The Kenyan Government has so far budgeted Shs 8 billion for the upgrading of Nyayo and Kasarani to required CAF standards.

It will be the first time staging an African football competition of that magnitude after missing out on the opportunity to host the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations and CHAN in 2018.
