Alarm as PBP recall defective SURE condoms over safety concerns
Sexually active persons who have used the Sure Lubricated Condoms Dotted, Batch No. 2405055 could have been exposed to grave risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV and AIDS after the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) issued an urgent recall public notice.
The recall comes after tests revealed that the product failed to meet the required quality standards, specifically the freedom-from-holes conductivity test.
PPB boss Dr. Fred Siyoi, in a statement released earlier today said the affected batch, labeled Batch No. 2405055, was manufactured by Indus Medicare Private Limited.
“In light of this, the Board advises all pharmaceutical outlets, healthcare facilities, healthcare professionals, and members of the public to immediately quarantine the product and STOP the further distribution, sale, issuance, or use of the affected product batch and return the product to their nearest healthcare facility or respective suppliers.” The statement read in part.
In an official statement, the Board emphasised its unwavering commitment to public safety and urged all stakeholders to comply promptly with the outlined measures.
The public is also encouraged to report any suspected cases of substandard medicines or adverse drug reactions through the nearest healthcare facility, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board hotline, or the official PPB reporting platforms.
The board reassured the public of its vigilance in maintaining high standards to safeguard public health.
“The Board encourages the public to report any suspected cases of sub-standard medicines or adverse drug reactions to the nearest healthcare facility or the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.” Siyoi added.
