Kenya Railway suspend today’s commuter services as Azimio protests rages
The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has suspended its commuter train services scheduled for today March 27, 2023 as anti-government protests by the opposition’s Azimio One Kenya Coalition rages.
Today, Azimio leadership led by Raila Odinga, Martha Karua, Kalonnzo Musyoka among a host of other leaders including Members of Parliament (MPs) are expected to engage police in major showdown after the dared the police boss Japhet Koome to arrest the.
“We do sincerely apologise to our esteemed customers for any inconvenience caused.” Kenya Railways management said yesterday through a public notice.
However, the Philip Mainga led corporation did not divulge reasons for the unexplained paralysis although insiders intimated it is in connection to the demonstrations.
In a notice issued yesterday evening, KRC said the commuter train services were suspended as a result of unavoidable circumstances.
However, the Madaraka Express link trains, which operate between the Nairobi Central station at CBD and the Nairobi terminus in Syokimau will still be in operation.
In Nairobi, commuter trains ply Syokimau, Ruiru, Embakasi, Kahawa West and Kikuyu routes.
