Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha says the results of the just-concluded Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) will be released in two weeks’ time as the marking of the examinations is currently underway.
Magoha stated in Kamukunji that marking began on the first day of the exams and that this year’s exercise will be concluded sooner than previous years.
Since 2017, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has used a hybrid marking system that includes both manual and electronic detection of answers for multiple-choice questions, with contracted teachers marking Kiswahili Insha and English Composition.
Magoha said marking of the scripts for the 1.2 million candidates started on the first day and will be completed in due course.
The marking of multiple-choice questions has been made easier by the acquisition of the modern Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) which electronically scores the papers.
Invite letters for examiners have already been sent out, according to Knec Chief Executive Officer David Njengere, and the examiners’ portal is ready.
“Examiners are required to access the Knec contracted professional website and log in using their usernames and passwords.
Those who have forgotten their passwords should click on the reset button to enter their module numbers and submit to receive new ones for logging into the system,” said Njengere.
He explained that after login on, examiners should complete their personal information and access, download, and print the invitation letters and marking instructions using the dashboard provided.
“Further instructions on acceptance and rejection of the marking offer are given in the invitation letters,” said Njengere.
KCPE was completed today, with marking expected to commence immediately. Teachers to mark the English Composition and Kiswahili Insha exams have been identified, while the multiple-choice papers are marked electronically.
