The Trends and Insights Africa (TIFA) has placed Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga as the most preferred presidential candidate in Nairobi County.
According to the polls released today, Raila remains the most popular candidate in Nairobi City County at 41 per cent.
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) William Ruto is at 31 per cent. He is on the other hand the most preferred presidential candidate in Murang’a county.
Ruto was favoured by 71 percent of respondents for the top job, while Odinga received 16 percent of the vote.
The research was conducted in the three counties of Nairobi, Murang’a and Busia between March 2 and March 8.
It involved 70 respondents from Nairobi, 400 respondents in Murang’a and 510 respondents in Busia.
TIFA Research Analyst Tom Wolf stated that ODM and its affiliated Azimio la Umoja Movement are by far the most popular political groupings in Busia County, accounting for roughly two-thirds of all respondents (65 per cent), with ODM garnering 45 percent and Azimio la Umoja garnering 16 percent.
“Whilst Raila Odinga is the most popular presidential candidate in Nairobi, the gap between him and DP Ruto is small enough to suggest that the level of contestation in this county will be high,” Tifa said.
DAP-K came in third with 10 percent of the vote, while Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA came in fourth with 7 per cent.
Kenya Kwanza Alliance (2 per cent) came in second, followed by Jubilee (1 per cent) and Amani National Congress (1 percent).
In Busia, 12 percent of respondents claimed they are not associated with any political party.
Senator Johnson Sakaja is the most popular contender in the Nairobi governorship contest, according to the same survey.
The study revealed that Sakaja has the best chance of clinching the Nairobi County top seat after the August 9 polls at 23 percent followed by Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi at 14 percent.
Seven percent of the respondents said they prefer the incumbent Anne Kananu while 6 per cent
said they prefer Richard Ngatia governorship.
The research further indicated that 5 per cent of the respondents demonstrated that they would support former governor Mike Sonko as governor while 4 per cent would want Bishop Margaret Wanjiru to succeed Kananu.
In the Nairobi women’s representative positions, 34 percent of respondents want current Esther Passaris to retain her seat, followed by her closest prospective opponent Millicent Omanga with 9 per cent.
48 percent of those polled are either indecisive or uncertain about their favourite candidates.
In the Senatorial race, a majority of the respondents still prefer Sakaja at 8 percent while 4 percent want Karen Nyamu to be the next Nairobi Senator.
However, 75 percent of the respondents are not sure of the candidates, are undecided and won’t vote.
