ANC leaders in Vihiga welcome court ruling on presidential results declaration

Amani National Congress (ANC) leaders in Vihiga County on Friday welcomed the ruling by the Court of Appeal affirming that presidential results declared at the constituency level are final.

The leaders, who were led by Sabatia MP Mr Alfred Agoi and Vihiga’s Mr Yusuf Chanzu, said the ruling had helped reduce the tension that was building in the country ahead of the August polls.

The appeal had been filed by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after the High Court ruled that presidential poll results announced in the 290 constituencies are final and should not be subjected to any alterations.
Addressing journalists at Municipal Grounds in Mbale after the ruling, Mr Agoi said the decision by the Court of Appeal “stood on the right side of history”.
He said: “As opposition leaders, we stand with that. IEBC chairman in Nairobi could tamper with the results. Today’s ruling had reduced tension that was already piling up.”
“We will now take part in the election because the issue we had has been addressed by the court,” added Mr Agoi.
