DP Rigathi Gachagua say he is working with leaders from all regions
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua says he is working with political leaders and elders from other regions in pushing for unity of the nation
He made the comments even as politicians and the clergy urged him to continue with his mission to rally all leaders behind president William Ruto and being courageous in executing his mandates.
Gachagua said his efforts to unite the Mount Kenya region are bearing fruits. He reiterated that he will not tire in reaching out to all leaders for the sake of national unity.
“The unity of the mountain is unstoppable and is complete. Only one per cent is remaining of the leaders and they will also join us. I am working with elders in searching for new friends. The mountain is united and the people at the grassroots have decided the unity call is important. We are not uniting against anybody or any region. It is for our own socio-political and economic interests. Let nobody be worried.” Gachagua noted.
Addressing thousands of worshipers of Jesus Compassion Ministry (JCM) church in Ruiru, Kiambu County, during the Consecration of Bishop Benson Gathungu Kamau alias Kiengei, Mr Gachagua also appealed to all leaders-irrespective of political affiliation- to give peace and love a chance for the Nation to develop.
He attributed the success in uniting the Mount Kenya to his decision to embrace all leaders, irrespective of their political affiliations, after the 2022 elections.
“We are not fighting anybody, we are searching for friendships from everywhere. We urge leaders not to attack each other and instead work together.” He added.
In his address the Deputy President also stated that during his recent trip to Pretoria South Africa for the swearing-in ceremony of President Cyril Ramaphosa, he took time to speak to Heads of State and Government to support Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s bid for African Union chairmanship bid.
“Even the former Prime Minister we were with him in South Africa and I took time to seek support for his bid in AUC chairmanship. We are praying to God to help him get the job.” Gachagua said.
He urged Bishop Kamau to continue with the compassionate Gospel and assisting the poor in the society. He also thanked the youthful Bishop for his dedication to compassionate Gospel and determination in ensuring that the poor, widows and orphans are not neglected.
“I have followed the Bishop’s activities of feeding and assisting the poor and vulnerable and I support the work he is doing of compassion. We will walk together in this journey. Let us be mindful of the less fortunate members of the society.” The DP noted.
He also appreciated all those who take part in the compassionate work.
At the event, Mr Gachagua was accompanied by a host of Kiambu county leaders led by senator Karungo Thang’wa and MPs Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri), Simon King’ara (Ruiru) and George Koimburi (Juja).
Former vice-president Kalonzo Musyoka together with former Cabinet Ministers Eugene Wamalwa and Sicily Kariuki were also joined the DP at the ceremony.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and MPs Jayne Kihara (Naivasha), James Gakuya (Embakasi North), Wambugu Wainaina (Othaya), Onesmus Ngogoyo (Kajiado North) and Njoroge Wainaina (Kieni) and MCAs led by the host Gatong’ora ward representative Daniel Gitau, among other leaders, were also present.
“We elected the President and his Deputy together. The DP was given the seat because of his political influence in the Mt Kenya region. He marshalled 87 per cent of the votes in the region towards President Ruto’s basket. We demand his respect.” Wamuchomba said.
Senator Thang’wa asked political leaders to unite and rally behind the President and the Deputy President and cease political attacks.
“As senators from Mount Kenya region we support you and your agenda. We have a Deputy President whom we are demanding that he must be respected. We are meeting as senators next week to deliberate on the regional issues.” Senator Thang’wa added.
