Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has alleged that Deputy President William Ruto almost slapped him and Interior Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i back in 2018.
Speaking during the Azimio-One Kenya campaigns in Bukhungu Stadium Kakamega county yesterday, the CS claimed that is a secret he has kept for a long time.
“Yesterday I saw my boss President Kenyatta saying someone wanted to slap him, the one who likes slapping people. He said if he could have slapped him, he would have turned the other cheek as well, (Ata mimi karibu nipate slap ya huyo jamaa. Kuna siku nilipeleka delegation ya waluhya viongozi kwa Rais Uhuru kujadili jinsi ya kufufua kiwanda cha sukari cha Mumias. Jamaa alikasirika akasema mbona uliwapeleka waluhya kwa president badala ya kuwaleta kwangu…), ” he claimed.
His statement followed the emergence of leaked audio where Ruto is heard saying that he nearly slapped President Kenyatta.
Wamalwa asserted that the DP objected to him and other Luhya leaders meeting the president at State House after the elections and requested that the CS submit a letter of resignation.
In contrast to the president, Wamalwa continued, he would not have turned the other cheek and instead would have defended himself “mundu khu mundu.”
He further alleged he has forgiven the DP and prays to God not to allow him to take the country’s top position come August.
He tagged Matiang’i in the accusation by claiming that he was also a victim of the DP’s rage.
According to the CS, Ruto was upset by Uhuru’s decision to give Matiang’i most of the DP’s responsibilities.
Wamalwa claimed to have pardoned Ruto but asked Western inhabitants not to support him because of his purported anger.
