The Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) has been tuned into a death crime scene after a female fourth year student committed suicide yesterday over failure graduate less than a fortnight ago after another student took her life for being locked out from graduating.
The body of the deceased, Irene Monica aged 26 and a Fourth-year student in the School of Business Computing was found dangling in the bathroom inside her apartment in Juja yesterday.
“Fourth-year student at JKUAT in the school of business computing was found dangling from the bathroom door frame with a piece of cloth around her neck,” part of the police findings report seen by The Informer show in part.
Police recovered a suicide note at the scene whose content has not yet been revealed.
According to preliminary police findings, she used a piece of cloth to hang herself inside a bathroom.
Monica died the same day she was to graduate during the college’s 38th Graduation ceremony.
The death comes just three days after another male student, also a Fourth year, died by suicide inside his room on Saturday.
Monica is reported to have complained to her friends that she was frustrated by the fact that she was not graduating.
The body was moved to General Kago Morgue awaiting autopsy examination to establish the actual cause of death.
This is a second student from the same University to have committed suicide due to being locked of the graduation.
On Saturday last week, a fourth-year committed suicide by hanging himself in the bathroom using a laptop charger just three days before his graduation due to missing marks.
Lenny Jessy Masiaga was found by his girlfriend inside her room at Maya Apartments along Kenyatta road.
“He also had stab wounds on the chest and was found hanging using a laptop charger. The body was transferred to General Kago mortuary awaiting post-mortem,” read the police report.
Police have launched investigations into the deaths.
