Multi-agency team instituted to deal with crime rate in Nairobi

The upsurge of criminal activity in the Nairobi central business district has forced the police to change plan in dealing with the crime rate.

Nairobi county police commander Augustine Nthumbi has said a multi agency team has been instituted to deal with the crime rate within city and its environs.

“Plane clothes officers have been tasked to address matter within the shortest time possible,” he said.

On kidnapping cases, Nthumbi said the police have widen their net to deal with those cases within Nairobi region.

This comes amid concerns about rising kidnapping cases in the city, with the most recent victim being Kamukunji-based businesswoman, Hafsa Mohamed Lukman.

However, detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) rescued her and arrested her abductors.

He at the same time warned the boda boda operators against being part of the criminal activities.

He also called up the locals to cooperate with the security officers in taming the worsening situation.

Meanwhile, Kenya Defence Forces has started a training for military officers, Kenya Police, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Coast Guard, Kenya Forest Service and National Youth Service.

A team of officers from the various agencies were engaged in joint training at Kenya Navy Manda Base in Lamu.

Launched by Chief of Defence Forces Gen Robert Kibochi, the training is designed to respond to emerging security threats, which require the employment of whole-of-government approach in delivering comprehensive solutions to contemporary threats.
