The Council of Governors has refuted claims they boycotted Mutahi Kahiga’s swearing-in as Nyeri Governor on Monday.
Kahiga, who was Deputy Governor, was sworn in as the fourth county chief following the death of Wahome Gakuru after a road accident last week.
None of the 46 governors witnessed the inauguration that followed prayers.
But CoG director of communication Andrew Teyie said: “The council was invited to the ceremony on Sunday evening. However, due to the short timing of the ceremony, the council registered its apologises.”
In a statement on Tuesday, Teyie sai chairman Josepht Nanok (Nanok) was also away on official duty and could not make it.
“Nanok is out of the country on official duty but has congratulated his brother Kahiga. The CoG fully supports Kahiga and is wholly involved in planning Gakuru’s funeral planning,” he said.
The director further said the council is non-partisan and supports all 47 counties.
