Kanu politicians from North Rift region have began a political charm offensive to unseat all elected Jubilee leaders in the August 2017 General Elections.
Should the scheme sail through, the KANU leaders said they will have achieved their objective of winning all positions of governors, senators, women reps, legislators (MP’s), ward reps (MCA’s) from Turkana, Baringo, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet and Samburu Counties.
The independence party leaders led by West Pokot Senator Prof John Lonyangapuo and former Information Minister Samwel Poghisio noted that the incumbent elected leaders from Jubilee were a big letdown to the residents for they have done little to liberate the region from its perennial menaces like drought, insecurity and poor road network that has heavily retarded development.
West Pokot Senator Prof John Lonyangapuo who is Jubilee’s vocal critic in North Rift while in Baringo county led a team of KANU aspirants today in a mission whereby professionals from Pokot community distributed 300 bags of relief food to hunger stricken residents of Tiaty constituency in Baringo.
The leaders who spoke heavily in Pokot dialect due to the fact that a very large percentage of the residents are illiterate used the moment to woo the locals to reject all Jubilee aspirants and back those from KANU alone.
Poghisio condemned the recurrent insecurity incidences happening in Baringo among other parts of the region and asked the government address the matter which was of negative impact towards all aspects of socio-economic development.
Prof Lonyangapuo and Poghisio who are West Pokot aspirants vying for gubernatorial and Senatorial seats respectively introduced Baringo County Assembly Speaker William Kamket who is vying for Tiaty parliamentary seat currently occupied by a three term MP Asman Kamama.
This development happens even as West Pokot Governor Mr Kachapin today dismissed KANU terming it as a nonstarter which had no clear Political Stance.
Others who addressed the series of meetings held at Chesekam, Chesitet, Chemolingot and Silale areas include the West Pokot County Assembly Speaker Robert Katina, Nairobi-based Senior Principal Magistrate Linus Poghon Kossan, Sigor Parliamentary aspirant Francis Kitelewiyan and MCAs Nelson Lotela(Silale Ward), Solomon Makal (Kolowa) and Daneil Tuwit of Ripko Ward.
