Social Development Principal Secretary (PS) Susan Mochache is concerned at the low uptake of Government development funds meant for the youth, women and vulnerable groups in the country.
Addressing women from different groups in Nyamira County, Mochache attributed the situation to fear of loan repayment by potential groups and lack of enough sensitisation of the funds.
She said that women and the youth ought to be encouraged to apply for the enterprise development funds to sustainably establish themselves financially and economically.
“Our people have not really shown much interest in taking the affirmative and women enterprise funds simply for fear of repaying with interest,” she noted.
Mochache was undertaking a sensitisation meeting for women leaders on cash transfer programmes and other government services on Thursday.
The PS said only a few groups in Kenya were applying for the funds and urged more to liaise with government social development officials at Sub county level to learn how the revolving kitty works for their own benefit.
She noted that interest rates on such loans were negligible depending on the contracted financial institution involved and asked beneficiaries to exercise maximum financial discipline to not only succeed in business but also enable more beneficiaries to access to the affirmative scheme.
