A group of religious leaders and civil society activists want IEBC to seek advice from the Supreme Court on the possibility of postponing the fresh election.
The lot, who are members of the Community of Just Peace Practitioners-Kenya (CJP-K), warned Kenya could plunge into chaos if the polls continue as planned.
“We encourage IEBC to seek advice from the Supreme Court on the way forward following legal, political and technical development,” he said.
In a joint communiqué issued after a meeting at Enashipai Resort in Naivasha, Julius Gichure cited the limited timeframe and the highly polarised political environment.
He noted the election is just a week away but the commission is yet to inspire confidence that the exercise will be credible.
The leaders cited the resignation of Commissioner Roselyn Akombe and chairman Wafula Chebukati’s statement that he can’t guarantee a credible election.
