National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has directed police to arrest and prosecute anyone found using banned plastic bags after sensitization campaign period ended a week ago.

According to Authority Director General Prof Geoffrey Wahungu, undercover police have started full implementation of the plastic bag ban with substantial arrests recorded.

“NEMA has conducted six week sensitization campaign informing Kenyans about the ban but the grace period is over and those found flouting it will face prosecution,” said Wahungu.

He said the implementation will be led by National Police Service, County government askaris and NEMA officials through impromptu inspections.
