The Vice chairman of the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) Eric Okeyo is leading a grassroots campaign team for the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta to State House as the campaigns mark the homestretch ahead of October 26 repeat polls.
The team comprising of professional groups, youth and political leaders is targeting to bolster Uhuru’s support across the country through active engagement with the electorates on the ground.
Yesterday, the team camped in Nyeri County led by Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru. Okeyo is part of the Jubilee caravan team dubbed Jubilee Presidential Campaign Team II. From Nyeri, they will head to Meru, Kakamega, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Baringo, Samburu and Nyandarua counties respectively.
Okeyo also doubles as the Vice Chairman of the Private Security Regulatory Authority and chairman of the Kenya Security Industry Association (KSIA). KISA is the largest security association in Kenya and provides a central organization for liaison with government, police, emergency services and other organisations.
They pledged to deliver more than 90 per cent of the vote. “We will crisscross the county to tell our people to vote for President Kenyatta in the October 26 polls,” Okeyo said.
The group vowed to aggressively campaign for Uhuru throughout the country and ensure he wins the repeat election as he did in the August 8, 2017 elections which was later nullified by the Supreme Court through a contentious majority decision led by Chief Justice David Maraga.
“We aim for progressive leadership through continuity and reelection of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto,” he added.
Kenyatta said National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga wants to boycott the election “for no reason” as he has sensed defeat, the President has said.
He dared him to quit if disinterested in the repeat polls so that the country can move forward. The NASA team has also rejected amendments to elections and will hold demonstrations on Mondays and Fridays until the demands are met.
Raila and co-prinicpals Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) and Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) have declared there will be no repeat election if their “irreducible minimums” are not effected.
