Security has been beefed up in Nairobi amid low scale demonstrations at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (Iebc) headquarters at Anniversary Towers.
The Nairobi County Police commander Japheth Koome has warned against any form or lawlessness and has asked those intent to demonstrate are free to do so but should do it peacefully.
He added that the police will accord them protection but warned that police will act firmly if they turn chaotic. ”We don’t derive pleasure in clobbering fellow citizens. We are here to protect lives and property,” said Koome.
Koome said this as he led a contingent of anti-riots officers in patrolling the city to ensure no disruptions are caused by protestors. He has warned against supporters blocking roads or destruction of property as has been witnessed in previous demonstrations by the national Super Alliance (Nasa) affiliated supporters.
