The United Nations (UN) has today applauded yesterday’s move by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to invite NASA and Jubilee representatives for a dialogue to discuss the preparations of the forth coming repeat presidential poll slated for October 26.
In a meeting with the IEBC Wednesday morning, the UN acknowledged IEBC’s efforts to obey Supreme Court order to conduct a fresh presidential elections.
The UN further appealed to the stakeholders to respect the independence of constitutionally mandated institutions, especially the IEBC and the Judiciary.
“The responsibility for successful elections lies not just with the electoral management body but with the entire range of stakeholders, from political parties, their supporters, civil society and to voters at large,” the UN said.
The UN also reaffirmed its commitment to support Kenya’s electoral process with impartiality.
