Two businessmen were today charged in a Nairobi court with obtaining Sh 520,000 from a business lady by falsely pretending that they were senior officers from Kenya Defence Forces and would offer her a tender to supply over 6,000 blankets and bed sheets.
Dancan Odhiambo Okello alias Major Dancan and Albert Opondo Oloo alias Colonel Albert who appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot denied two counts of obtaining money by false Pretences and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The court heard that on diverse dates between June 6, and 8,2017 in Nairobi county the accused persons jointly with others not before the court, obtained Sh 520,000 from Marion Minayo by falsely pretending that they were senior officers with KDF and were capable to offer her a tender to supply 2,000 pieces of bed sheets and 4,000 blankets to the said KDF a fact they knew to be false.
It is alleged that the duo defrauded the complainant who runs a pub in Zimmerman after they tricked her they are Major Dancan and Colonel Albert senior officers from KDF and were capable to offer her the tender for the supply of the said goods amounting to Sh 2.6 million.
Okello and Oloo through their lawyer asked the court to be released on reasonable bond terms saying they not a flight risk and are the sore bread winners of their families.
The magistrate however, ordered the duo to be released on a bond of sh 500,000 or a cash bail of Sh 200,000 pending the hearing of the case on October 6.
