Political uncertainty is primarily to blame for the withdrawal of Kenya’s rights to host CHAN 2018, Sports PS Peter Kaberia has said.
Kaberia told journalists on Monday that decision makers cited risks to do with the repeat election following the cancellation of the August 8 presidential election.
He said they had held a series of meetings with the president and vice president of Confederation of African Football on the matter.
“We lost CHAN and are disappointed by the news. We were very ready to host CHAN. We pushed, explained and showed confidence but unfortunately a decision has been made,” he said.
“The technical experts categorically explained they could not take chances with the current political situation. Despite all our explanations, the direction and status of the election is so unpredictable.”
