A Kenya Defence Forces Officer (KDF) today appeared in Nyahururu High Court charged with murder.
Sospeter Lomongo was accused that on August 29, 2017 at Rumuruti Township in Laikipia County, he shot dead 14-year -old Lekopure Leiyagu.
Lomongo denied that he opened fire and killed the minor before Lady Justice Roselyne Wendo
According to police officers at Rumuruti police station, the officer had gone for shopping in Rumuruti town when a disagreement between him and his colleague ensued before he opened fire killing the minor and injuring another.
He was arrested and taken to Rumuruti police station before he was handed over to his colleagues at the military police station.
The accused had earlier on appeared in court but did not take a plea as the Judge was on leave.
A medical report submitted to court yesterday indicated that the officer was fit to stand trial.
The hearing was set for January 29 and 30 next year with the prosecution lining up eight witnesses to testify.
The officer also appeared in another court charged with attempted murder.
The charge stated that on August 29, this year at Rumuruti Township in Laikipia County, he attempted to kill 15-year -old Loitiptip Lenasotu by shooting and injuring him.
He however, denied the charge when he appeared before Nyahururu Senior Resident Magistrate Ocharo Momanyi.
Momanyi directed that the case be mentioned on September 25, 2017 for further directions.
