Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has pledged to overhaul “archaic city by-laws” to align them to the Constitution and introduce a training system and reward scheme for inspectorate officers who excel in their work.
He said he will ensure City Hall staff are paid on time and all statutory deductions remitted to improve on personnel morale, adding some city council askaris who have been acting in various capacities will be confirmed and new officers hired.
Speaking during a Security, Compliance and Disaster Management Department meeting, Sonko pledged to also procure enough uniform and appropriate tools of trade for the inspectorate officers.
“My administration will fast-track the implementation of far reaching reforms that shall including overhauling the current archaic by-laws to align with the Constitution, confirm those who have been serving on an acting capacity, procure new and enough uniforms and the appropriate tools of trade,” added the county chief.
During the meeting, inspectorate officers laid bare the pathetic conditions under which they work.
