Transport was today paralysed along Ngong Road and Naivasha Road in Nairobi after matatu operators took to the street protesting alleged police harassment and extortion.
Passengers were forced to used alternative means while commuters suffered three hours of road blockade causing heavy traffic snarl up.
However, Kabete Police officers under Dagoretti Police command restored normalcy mid morning hours.
“We are tired of police harassment and extortion. We pay as as much as sh1000 daily as bribe. We want Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to act. Stop harassment now,” some of the placards the were waiving read in part.
The irate demonstrators engaged police in running battles but they were later contained and resumed operations.
