The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) will on October 1 launch electronic licences which are “very difficult to counterfeit”.
The electronic chip sticker will secure identification and authentication of vehicle ownership.
“It is convenient, user-friendly and portable since you can put it in your wallet just like any other cards,” director general Francis Meja said on Tuesday.
Some of the features are motorists’ biometric details, a demerit point system and a payments wallet.
The wallet will enable drivers make on-the -spot payments for traffic offences they might commit and cater for any other costs.
Motorists will pay Sh3,000 for the three-year licences, up from the current Sh1,500.
