The Council of Governors (CoG) has issued a one-week notice to the nurses to call off the strike and return to work or face the sack.
Speaking after they held a consultative meeting at the Council offices in Nairobi today, CoG Chairman Josephat Nanok said payment of salaries of the striking nurses will be stopped immediately and those who will not have reported back to work by the stipulated time will stand sacked and the counties will advertise their positions.
“The Council hereby puts all the striking nurses on notice to return to work by September 8. All nurses who will not have returned to work by then will be sacked with immediate effect and their positions will advertised,” CoG said.
The Council Chair said that Counties will hire nurses on a contract basis adding that a generic advertisement will be generated by the Council Secretariat on behalf of all the 47 Counties and interested candidates are required to apply in specific counties where they would like to work in.
