The ongoing security operation in Laikipia County will not stop until people in illegal possession of guns and forcefully occupying other peoples’ land obey the law, Lakipia West deputy County Commissioner, Benedict Munywoki said today.
Addressing members of Samburu community, the DCC said the operation was necessary since people are being killed using the illegal guns and conflict occurring because herders had illegally occupied other peoples’ land.
“The operation will not stop because some people illegally own guns which are being used to kill people. Other people have forcefully driven their animals to peoples’ land.
“Surrender those guns to the government and leave other people’s land if you want the operation to stop”, Munywoki told the people outside his office in Rumuruti town.
The group had earlier held demonstration in the town protesting killing of a 14 year old boy and injuring of another by a KDF officer on Tuesday.
The DCC said animals shot dead during the operation were caught in the crossfire “because illegal gun holders have been using the animals as shield to shoot at our officers”.
The administrator banned carrying of guns by those taking animals to graze.
