Walter Magamu allegedly shot his wife Mercy Amu in the chest and leg at Yala AP camp on Monday evening.
He is an Administration Police officer based in Kericho while Amu was an AP based at Yala.
Sources at the camp, who did not want to be named, said trouble started when Magamu visited Amu without notice.
It is said the mother of two had just returned to her house with her weapon when her husband arrived and found her with another man.
It was while the couple argued that the man took his wife’s gun and used it to kill her while the other man fled.
“They scuffled for about 30 minutes before we heard gunshots. On arrival, we found Mercy lying in a pool of blood,” a source said.
Siaya county commissioner Josephine Onuga condemned the incident saying couples should solve their problems amicably. She said police can ask for advice from elders or counsellors within the service.
Onuga said they had traced Magamu’s phone to Bumala.
The commissioner noted nobody, whether an officer or a civilian, has the right to kill another.
“No one is beyond the arm of the government. We will soon catch up with him. He can run but he cannot hide.”
The body was taken to Yala sub-county hospital morgue.
On Saturday, a Kiambu politician was shot dead inside his car in Limuru town after meeting friends at a club.
