A Mombasa court has handed a Somali national a sentence of 22 years in prison after he was found guilty of charges related to terrorism.
Mombasa chief magistrate Francis Kymbia,in his judgment said Abdullaziz Abdulla Abdi was guilty of charges leveled against him among them being in possession of explosives, an AK47 rifle,270 rounds of ammunition among others.
Kyambia said that the prosecution had proved its, case beyond any reasonable doubt and that Abdi had intended to use the, weapon and explosives found in his possession to carry out a terror attack on innocent Kenyans.
“The items recovered in his possession are not ordinary items to be easily found on anybody in the country, the suspect had therefore planned and executed plans, on how to get the illegal items and was intending to commit a heinous act before he was arrested and therefore he ought to be punished in accordance with the law”, said Kyambia.
The court further established that the suspect was in the country illegally.
Abdi had been arrested in March 2014 in Changamwe sub county.
Kyambia directed the suspect to appeal against the sentence within 14 days.
