Farmers in West Pokot county have benefited from a free clinic in inspecting and servicing tractors as they prepare for the planting season.
The one day tractor clinic held at Kapenguria was sponsored by FMD East Africa that saw several local farmers benefit from the skills taught and the drivers who use the implements on better way of setting their machines for better ploughing and planting for higher production.
The FMD East Africa Sales rep Tom Ayabei said that they are expecting over two thousand tractors in the clinic and that the process is always educating them on after sales service for farmers.
Their technical demonstrator Foreign Market Mr Wilian Caetano took the farmers and drivers on the best modes of setting the machine.
Caetano demonstrated on how settings of ploughing on different levels of gradient when ploughing.
Present during the clinic was the West Pokot Senator Prof John Lonyangapuo who took the government to task on the release of fertilizer to farmers for early preparation as well on the best technical advise to farmers on the sampling of soil type and acidity for better production.
He said that several farmers lose millions annually due to lack of information on best farming practices.
He challenged county governments to make means of educating farmers according to various climatic conditions and type of crop production in the area.
