Police in Kiambu netted more than 2,000 stones of bhang valued at Sh1 million at Ndenderu on Tuesday.
They believe the stones valued at Sh1 million were being transported from Tanzania.
They were in a saloon car with two occupants – Aggrey Otieno and Alex Onyango. The two were were arrested and are helping police with investigations.
The officers said the suspects were on their way to Kasarani when they were apprehended.
County commander Adiel Nyange told journalists other people who were in a Probox car escaped.
He said the vehicles were overloaded and that their drivers had been speeding, prompting police on patrol to pursue them.
“The saloon car’s rear window opened at a bump and some of the stones of bhang in it fell out,” the police boss said on Wednesday.
“The bhang is believed to have passed through Isibania border.”
Nyange said they believe the vehicle was carrying approximately 131 kilos of bhang packed in sacks.
“Another 1,800 stones were stuffed inside the vehicle leaving only space for the passenger and the driver.”
The car was taken to Karuri police station in Kiambaa.
