Police on Sunday night shot dead two suspected criminals following a botched robbery in Kayole estate, Nairobi.
George Mwaniki alias Mwanii and his accomplice only identified as Willy were gunned down in Weteithie area, Juja after being trailed from a failed robbery in Kayole.
Police said Mwanii was the husband of the slain Clea Njoki alias Claire Adi Vybz who was shot in May in Kayole.
According to police, Mwanii was a ringleader of dreaded Gaza gang, blamed for killing police officers in Kayole, Dandora and Utawala and engaging in other criminal activities.
Mwanii has been on the run for almost five months is also accused of orchestrating some of the heinous crimes in the neighbour.
Hours after their death, social media was awash with celebratory comments, thanking the police for eliminating them.
Messages were posted on Facebook groups including “Dandora Crime Free” and “Dandora Love People.”
Images of the two lying in pool of blood and a gun next to them were shared widely.
The social media sites are believed to be managed by police officers who are out to reach many youths in Dandora, Kayole, Huruma, Umoja and other places and who have ventured into crime.
On those sites, an administrator identified as Hessy wa Kayole, Hessy wa Dandora, Hessy wa Huruma and other places depending on the targeted place, usually issues warnings to suspected thugs on the loose and tell them their days are numbered.
Before his death, Mwanii had gone to the social media and accused police of killing Claire for no apparent reason.
“Hessy, stop taking the credit for killing Claire saying that you had warned her and just settle your grudge with me like a man instead of dragging innocent people into battle they know nothing of,” he said in Facebook post.
Mwanii had reportedly tasked his wife Claire with carrying his gun on days that he committed crimes in Nairobi.
Claire, who was celebrated on social media as Nairobi’s prettiest thug, was buried in a tense ceremony attended by few friends and relatives in Murang’a.
She was buried together with another male suspect, also killed in a police shooting in Kayole.
Her accomplice known as only known as Minaj, was also killed days later details of their shooting were revealed on a Facebook account run by the unknown person claiming to be a police officer.
