Relief for patients in North Rift, part of Western and Nyanza regions who depend on Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) for health services after 800 nurses, who have been on strike for close to three months, called off the industrial action.
This was after the leadership of the Kenya National Union of Nurses ( KNUN ) and the hospital management board signed a return-to-work formula that facilitated the heath workers to resume their duties yesterday.
The hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr Wilson Aruasa signed on behalf of the management board signed the agreement while the acting secretary general of the nurses union Michale Opetu signed on behalf of the union.
The two parties agreed that the hospital will seek from Salaries and Remuneration Commission a no-objection letter to pave way for the implementation of the already agreed items in the CBA within seven days.
The parties also agreed that the nurses will receive a total of Sh20,000 as uniform allowance annually.
The allowance shall be payable in the 2017/18 Financial Year.
