Gerald Nyaoma has assumed office as the deputy Governor of Central Bank. Nyaoma, who has worked with the bank for nearly 36 years, was appointed by President William Ruto.
He emerged top after clipping five other contestants in the interview for the position. Until his appointment to the position, he had been serving as the director of banking supervision of CBK.
Since he joined CBK in August 1988, he has served in various senior positions including the Financial Markets, Banking Services, and Internal Audit Departments, culminating in his role as the Director of the Bank Supervision Department.
He has been tapped to fill the position of the second deputy Governor in attempt to resolve a legal hitch at the bank. Nyaoma has had a long and distinguished career at CBK. He joins Susan Koech, who was appointed in February 2024 in compliance with law, which requires that the Governor should have two deputies.
He will serve for a period of four years. Nyaoma holds an M.Phil. (Econ.) degree from the University of Cambridge, UK, and BA (Economics) degree from the University of Nairobi. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K), a Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K) and an Associate of the Kenya Institute of Bankers (AKIB).
He has served on the board of the Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) as an Alternate Member to the Governor.
CBK Governor Dr Kamau Thugge congratulated Nyaoma on his appointment adding that it is an honour and a pleasure to welcome him back to the Central Bank of Kenya.
