The curse of the roads is back as the popular black spot of Londiani in Kericho County just next to Muhoroni has once again earlier today claimed lives following a fatal road accident.
According to witnesses account, this was a self-involved traffic crash along the Muhoroni-Londiani Road involving a Dreamline company bus driven by Abdalla Masen. Reports from Police who arrived at the scene shortly afterwards said the vehicle lost control while trying to avoid ahead on crash with an oncoming vehicle thereby landing in a ditch leaving three people dead.
The Bus was coming from Mombasa in the 44 capacity vehicle and was headed for Busia via Siaya and through Londiani. Masen lost control while approaching the Londiani junction and according to reports, while he was negotiating a corner, he landed to his left of the road. The fatalities include one male, one female and a child who are yet to be identified by authorities.
Other passengers aboard totaling 41 were rushed to the nearby Londiani Sub County Hospital serious injuries .Reports from the Office of the Base Commander in Londiani indicate that 14 passengers had bad injuries while 31 had slight injuries. The bus was recovered and towed to the Londiani Station pending further inspection. The driver of the affected bus was treated, discharged and escorted to the station pending interrogation.
The area has been cordoned off with personal effects from passengers been strewn all over as traffic officers tend to the scene. It was a challenge for the Police to handle the curious milling onlookers in the accident that took part at around 4.20am.
Londiani Junction is notorious for dangerous road accidents over the past years despite Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) reworking the markings. The killer spot has claimed hundreds of lives with some residents even going ahead to claim the section is cursed while small scale traders like hawkers also being amongst the sufferers.
