Uasin Gishu Lands CEC Janet Kosgei arrested by Eacc over alleged Sh120,000 extortion racket

Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member  (CECM) for Lands, Physical Planning and Housing Janet Kosgei has been apprehended by detectives attached to the anti-graft body over alleged Sh120,000 extortion racket from a member of the public seeking services.

Kosgei was arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday December 4, 2024.

She was released on police bond on Thursday December 5, 2024 pending completion of investigations in the bribery claims.

Sleuths who spoke to The Informer Media Group onm condition of anonymity intimated that they are investigating multiple allegations of extortion from citizens seeking services in her office.

“There are numerous complaints.” Our source added.

The reports alleged that Kosgei had been demanding bribes for land-related services, with amounts varying depending on the nature of the request.

At the time of her arrest, Kosgei had allegedly demanded Sh120,000 from a service seeker in exchange for appending her signature on a land lease document.

Kosgei was arrested alongside two county enforcement officers, Sergeant Geoffrey Lang’at and Sergeant Jeremiah Kipkemoi who reportedly attempted to obstruct the arrest by attacking the Eacc officers.

However, the detectives managed to subdue and apprehend the trio.

The three suspects, who were captured in a video clip during the operation, were detained at Eldoret Central Police Station overnight.

They have since recorded statements at the Eacc North Rift Regional Offices as investigations into the matter continue.
