Planning for the 14th edition of the East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary Games is on a fever pitch set to take place in Mombasa county from December 6 to December 18, 2024.
The highly anticipated event will bring together over 1,500 legislators and parliamentary staff from across the region, fostering cohesion and unity among EAC member states.
And as Kenya gears up for the competition, Teso South MP Mary Emaase, says the National Assembly sports team has intensified preparations at the Nyayo National Stadium.
The team will compete in various disciplines, including volleyball, athletics, soccer, tug of war, netball, darts for persons with disabilities (PWDs), and golf.
“This annual event brings together parliamentarians from East African countries, providing an opportunity to bond, interact, and deepen relationships.” Emaase said, underscoring the importance of the competition.
Six AC member states—Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and Kenya—have confirmed their participation. Additionally, the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) will field a separate team, adding to the event’s competitive spirit.
The games are not only a platform for sportsmanship but also a means to strengthen regional collaboration and integration. Security during the event will be jointly managed by the Mombasa County Inspectorate and the National Police Service to ensure a safe environment for participants and spectators.
